Formal workplace mediation

What is it?

Mediation resolves a range of conflict based issues including, performance disagreement, break in communications, lack of trust or respect,  disciplinary, grievance, back to work,  perceived behavioural issues in the workplace.

Mediation is a confidential, voluntary, yet structured process in which an impartial third party [the Mediator] brings the two parties

together with the  aim of restoring an effective working relationship.

Any agreement reached comes from the parties, not from the Mediator. The Mediator is not there to judge or say one party is right or wrong or to tell the parties what to do.

The Mediator is responsible for the process; the parties are responsible for the issues and solutions.

Why use it?

Mediation has the benefit of:

■  Addressing disputes swiftly before they escalate

■  Providing an environment where employees are treated with dignity and respect

■  Reducing  costs  of resolving  disputes by  avoiding  formal  action  or  an Employment Tribunal

Providing a fair working environment which increases reputation of the organisation and increases employee engagement.

Most mediation meetings are completed in one day. However it has been found to be beneficial to meet on a separate occassion as part of the process or during the monitoring phase
